Q: What happens to the rent deposit money, and is it protected?
A: Yes, absolutely! In accordance with UK law, your rent deposit is securely held in a government-approved tenancy deposit protection (TDP) scheme. This ensures that your deposit is safe and can only be accessed under agreed-upon terms.
At the end of the tenancy, the deposit is returned to you, minus any agreed deductions for damages, unpaid rent, or other breaches of the tenancy agreement. If there is a dispute about the deductions, the TDP scheme provides a free resolution service to help resolve the matter fairly.
